Saint Teresa of Calcutta

Saint Teresa of Calcutta is the foundress of the congregation of the Missionaries of Charity. After a calling from the Lord, she established a religious community in October 1950 in the Archdiocese of Calcutta. The community cares for the poor, the sick, and the dying throughout the world, including in Harlem and the Bronx. For more than three decades, the sisters have worked at Saint Joseph of the Holy Family’s convent where they organize a food pantry, soup kitchen, and a women’s shelter to present day. We are blessed that they also teach our children religious education through the Good Shepherd Program. The sisters are a light of love and service to the Harlem community.
